The first Chinatown in Riverside

I went to the Historic Downtown Riverside in Riverside, California to check out that Chinese Pavilion in the heart of downtown.

I found out that this Chinese Pavilion was built in 1985 in honor of the Chinese settlers during the 19th century that contributed to the "development of agriculture, transportation and commerce" of Riverside.

The location was known to be the first "Chinatown" in Riverside, although you wouldn't see a lot of Chinese businesses nowadays in the surrounding area compared to the vibrant Chinatown in Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Now it stands as a monument, garden and landscape.

Doesn't it remind you of the "Paifang" or symbolic archways commonly found in Asia? that marks the beginning of your walk to a Temple or Courtyard.

So this is me pretending to be somewhere in Asia...Japan or China perhaps? Anyway its free to travel in my dreams...
