My 3 Thanksgiving Tradition

Ready for Thanksgiving Day?

Anything special that you do on that day?  fly home to the family? celebrate with friends?

Here's 3 of my Thanksgiving tradition that you may consider for your own thanksgiving...

1. Thanksgiving Day officially kicks off my Christmas Holiday.

holiday decorations are out...

I kept the cards from last year. I think holiday cards are pretty cool and adds a personal touch to the greetings. It's more convenient to send e-cards via social network or e-mail but I appreciate sending and receiving some via postal mail.

2.  I light a candle for missed love ones.

For family and friends who are missed. No more sorrows here, just life lessons learned. I believe people are brought to us only for a certain period of time, to teach us something, a lesson to learn. Even when they are gone, they left us with memories...a second chance...

Eva gave this to me when I picked her up for our thanksgiving dinner. I think it's a Jasmine. A favorite of my mom, who passed away couple of years ago.

3. Go Asian buffet, eat dim sum, sushi, seafood and green tea...

*No Turkey was harmed during dinner...

Got any Thanksgiving traditions?

The Japanese Camellia

...the union between two lovers...

My first bloom of the Japanese Camellia .

According to the Chinese, the petals symbolize a young woman while the calyx, which holds the petals symbolize the young man "entrusted by the lady as her protector".

While the calyx holds the petals, so does the young man supports and protects the young woman.

A rare characteristic of the camellia is when the petals fall off so does the calyx.

A symbol of pure and devoted love.

3 Facts & Fiction about the Cabazon Dinosaurs

Today was my day-off. So I went exploring...

I heard there were dinosaurs in the Inland Empire.

So here's what I found out..3 Facts & Fiction about the Cabazon Dinosaurs.

The Velociraptor grows to 6.8 feet long and 1.6 feet high,
one of the dinosaurs featured in Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park

1. They do exist and dwell in the Inland Empire. Known as the Cabazon Dinosaurs. If you've been to the  Morongo Casino, you could see a glimpse of two giant dinosaurs along the I-10 fwy. Popular way back in the 80's when it was featured in a Coke commercial, MTV and the movie "Pee Wee's Adventure".

2. They're neither carnivore, nor vegetarian but sculptures by Claude Bell. A sculptor for Knott's Berry Farm Amusement Park, "took him two decades and $300,000" to create these giant sculptures seen by travelers near Palm Springs. Bell died in 1989, he was 91 years old.

The  long neck, long tailed giant Brachiosaurus , also featured in the Spielberg movie

3. It's a cool place to check out in the Inland Empire.
A roadside attraction when passing by Palm Springs or when you coming back from the music festival in the Coachella Valley, this is a must-stop that you need to check out...and it's near a gas station and restaurant.

The T-Rex or Trynnosaurus Rex, became an overnight celebrity, thanks to Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park.

"God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man, Man destroys God, Man creates dinosaurs...Dinosaurs eat Man, Woman inherits the earth" -

My 3 Thanksgiving Dinner Must-Haves

Ready for Thanksgiving Day? Are you hosting or attending?

You still have time to shop, prepare, cook and for some...stage a Thanksgiving Dinner...

So here's my 3 Thanksgiving Dinner Must-Haves...Turkey not included...

1. Wine, wine, and wine. I'm not a wine expert, but I do have some favorites that you might be interested. Red or White but  I prefer Black... Stella Rosa Black  from San Antonio Winery . You can sample the wine before you purchase. Huge selection, staff are really nice and the price is very affordable.

Stella Rosa Moscato D'Asti, my all time favorite. Just be careful, all Stellas are sweet, crisp and refreshing, sip and don't gulp! Alcohol content is 5.5% by volume.

2. Chocolates, chocolates and more chocolates. Some prefer cakes or pastries for dessert. My choice is dark or milk chocolates from See's Candies. It compliments the wine and goes well with coffee or tea.

Dark chocolate truffle

crunchy on the outside, chewy in the inside

Dark or milk chocolate...your choice...

3. Flowers, flowers and flowers. If I'm celebrating Thanksgiving with friends, instead of bringing a dish, I prefer to bring flowers. Somebody cooks better than me and there's going to be a lot of food. So flowers then...

A lot of these bouquets and flower arrangements are available in every grocery store and flower shops, just in time for the holiday.

But I still prefer to showcase my roses from the garden...

Got any must-haves for Thanksgiving?

3 Things to Remember on Veterans Day that you may have Forgotten

Did you know that November 11 is Veterans Day? And did you know that it is observed around the world as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day?

So here's 3 Things to Remember that you may have forgotten about Veterans Day.

1. It's more than a federal holiday, it's a historical event. It marks the celebration of the end of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day on the 11th month of 1918. Originally observed as Armistice Day, until it was called Veterans Day in 1954.

2. It's a commemoration of World Peace. It marks the end of the Great War, the war of all wars. The most brutal and horrifying war that happened in history. Never to happen...again?

3. Veterans Day is different from Memorial Day. Remembering the military personnel who died in the service, particularly those who died in battle are honored on Memorial Day.

Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Memorial

While those who died are remembered on Veterans Day, it is intended to honor and thank all those who served in the military during wartime and peacetime, most especially the living veterans

I'll Be Seeing You...

I'll Be Seeing You, Sammy Fain

I'll be seeing you
in all the old familiar places
that this heart of mine embraces
all day through

In that small café
the park across the way
the children's carousel
the chestnut trees
the wishing well

I'll be seeing you
in every lovely summer's day
in everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way

I'll find you
in the morning sun
and when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
but I'll be seeing you...

Dia de Los Muertos

Today is the celebration of  Dia de Los Muertos. In other cultures, it's All Souls Day, whichever region or religion you coming from, it is the Day of the Dead.

This is Dia de Los Muertos celebration at Rose Hills Cemetery

I'm assuming the departed is a Packers fan...

The celebration of the Dia de Los Muertos here in the States, may have started way back in the 1990's.

Altars are created, remembering loved ones who has passed away, adorned with flowers and favorite food, pictures and some possessions of the departed. This family loves Goya!

It is a public holiday in Mexico, where it is highly celebrated.

Women adorn themselves like Catrina,   a popular figure in the Day of the Dead celebration

Some say the celebration has evolved from it's traditional essence, into an artistic celebration, sometimes political statements.

Today I saw two families coming together remembering the departed as family and a friend...

Even the undead needs a resting place...

Just another day for the living and undead...
